Not too long ago I was talking to this lady while I was working and some how the subject came up about God. She told me she loves God and what he has done for her and she doesn't believe in a angry God.
I thought about what she said for awhile and thought why isn't God angry? All the lying, stealing, cheating, murder, abortion and so on. All for ones self gain. After all isn't that why we sin, for self gain? This world is very dark place and if you don't believe it, I guess your not in tune.
Isn't that why He comes back in the end is to save the elect?
Will the dam of grace break and the river of mercy be no more?
John 1:10
10.
He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.

Well, like that lady, I don't think that He is an angry God. He created us because He loves us and for us to love him. I'm sure he is disappointed with most of us at least some of the time. And I know He gets angry at times which causes him to act out against those that defy him, but I truly believe He is a loving God.
ReplyDeleteI beleive He's loving too but the world will see His grace for only so long. Romans 1:18 thru the rest of the chapter is just one place He makes it clear what is and has already happened.
ReplyDeleteThere comes a point when God has to enact discipline and justice, and the Bible surely does talk about the wrath of God being poured out, as the previous poster commented. But His holiness and His glory is His motivation, not simply being angry because we screw everything up.
ReplyDeleteAnd one of my favorite verses describes His incredible patience and mercy toward us: "Even now," declares the Lord, "return to Me with all your heart, with weeping and fasting and mourning." Rend your hearts and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and He relents from sending calamity. Who knows? He may turn and have pity and leave behind a blessing.
He would rather we turn our whole hearts to Him than unleash His wrath.
Just my humblest of $0.02.
Some of the nicest, most compassionate, greatest people I've ever known were actually fire and brimstone. In other words, very strict in belief and how they lived their lives, yet compassionate and full of grace.
ReplyDeleteI'm certainly not comparing man to God, but the paralell is worth noting because God wants us to depend on wisdom, not emotion. That's the key.
Anger is an emotion, therefore God doesn't get angry.
